Synergistic Decision Making
A high-impact leadership/management exercise, research-based, field-tested, and pedagogically sound.
Synergistic Decision-Making Simulation
A team-oriented problem-solving situation. This highly effective, exercise:
- Strengthens cooperation and communication in implementinthe goal setting process.
- Demonstrates the impact of constructive group styles on performance.
- Promotes members’ acceptance of – and readiness for – organizational change.
- Improves group problem-solving skills and decision-making effectiveness.
- Teaches members about their own organizational culture and their thinking and behavioral styles.
Assessing Group Styles
Using the teams’ observations of their own performance in the simulation to understand their thinking and behavioral differences, this revealing assessment:
- Helps team members make the connection between constructive interpersonal styles and positive outcomes (including in goal setting).
- Displays the different styles of each team member and whether these either support or inhibit synergistic decision-making.
- Unifies the entire team’s thinking about how to collectively engage in mutual challenges such as goal setting.
The synergistic decision-making simulation is dynamic and versatile, and is, among other things, an icebreaker for training and development programs, as well as a tool to establish healthy norms within a work group. And, it can be used with new or established teams to introduce members to the value of synergy or to gauge their synergistic problem-solving skills.
It also creates a situation in which all members participate as equals – regardless of rank or position. By starting on equal footing, participants participate equally, focus on group processes, and analyze their contributions to the quality of the team’s performance.
Assessing group styles is critical in being able to solve real-life problems. Further it will help in improving team dynamics to enhance the quality of team decisions, in increasing members’ satisfaction with their teams, and in integrating team development with individual, leadership, and organizational development.
